He joined the United States Army after graduating from high school and served as a DJ for the American Forces Radio Network. Following his discharge from the Army, Cash worked with Hank Williams Jr. until signing a record contract with Musicor Records in 1965. A year later, he signed with United Artists Records and missed the Country Top 40 with “The Sounds of Goodbye” in 1968.  In late 1969, while still signed to Epic Records, he released his greatest success, “Six White Horses,” a song dedicated to John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.  He had two Top Ten songs in 1970, “One Song Away” and “Rise and Shine,” both penned by Carl Perkins. “I Recall a Gypsy Woman,” Cash’s last top 20 song, was released in 1973. Cash continues to do performances all around the globe.
