Alan Watts

Alan Watts was a well-known British philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known for his translation of Eastern philosophy into English. Born in England to Christian parents, he became interested in Buddhism while still a student at King’s School in Canterbury. He later joined the Buddhist Lodge, where he met many scholars and spiritual masters who helped shape his ideas.

He was a prolific writer who began writing when he was fourteen years old. Many of his early works were published in Lodge’s journal. He moved to the United States at the age of twenty-three, where he first received Zen master training before leaving before being ordained. He then studied Christian scriptures and served as a priest for six years in Chicago before moving to San Francisco to pursue an academic career. Simultaneously, he began giving talks on Eastern philosophy, and he quickly gained a large audience both at home and abroad. In addition to more than 25 books, he left an audio library of nearly 400 talks, which are still in high demand.
