Troy Merritt Biography

Merritt was born in Osage, Iowa, on October 25, 1985, and grew up in Boise, Idaho. Golfing for Spring Lake Park High School (Minnesota) and Winona State University (Minnesota) were two of his favorite pastimes as a young man. Boise State University was where he ended up after that. He earned a first-team All-WAC selection at Boise State. It just so happened that both of his parents were teachers. His age is 36.

Career

In 2008, Merritt began working professionally. On September 6, 2009, Merritt defeated Australia’s Adam Bland in a playoff in the Mexico Open, his debut event on the Nationwide Tour. On December 7, 2009, he became only the third golfer in PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament history to win a medal by leading after every round. Despite a double-bogey on the final hole of the six-round competition, he won by one stroke against Jeff Maggert with a total of 22-under-par. Keeping his card was no problem for Merritt after his 2010 PGA Tour finish of 125th.

At Hilton Head Island’s Heritage tournament in April 2015, Merritt tied David Frost’s tournament record with a 10-under-par 61. Jordan Spieth, the 2015 Masters champion, shot 62 following a 74 in the opening round before Merritt shot 61. Merritt earned $401,200 for his third-place performance in the tournament, behind Jim Furyk and Kevin Kisner. The Quicken Loans National was Merritt’s first PGA Tour victory.

His final round 61 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club broke the course record and allowed him to hold off the field by three strokes at 18-under 266. On April 17, 2015, Merritt shot a 10-under-par 61 at the Heritage on Hilton Head Island to tie David Frost’s 1994 tournament record. In the wake of Jordan Spieth’s victory in the 2015 Masters with a 62, Merritt sunk an impressive round of 61 to finish in second place. As a result, Merritt received $401,200 for a third-place finish behind Jim Furyk and Kevin Kisner.

Merritt made his PGA Tour debut at the Quicken Loans National in 2015. He won by three strokes at 18-under 266 after shooting a course record of 61 in the final round at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Troy Merritt’s Net Worth

Troy Merritt’s net worth is difficult to ascertain because of the many payouts he receives that aren’t reported to the IRS. However, sources have estimated a value they believe is close to the truth.

At the 2009 Mexico Open, he took home $117,500 for taking first place; at the 2015 Heritage Classic, he finished third and took home over $400,000. It’s hard to believe that spending in the bottom half of the 2010 money list on the PGA Tour earned him more money than expected: $786,000.

Since joining the PGA Tour in 1996, he has competed in 248 tournaments and finished in the top half of the field 129 times. According to CBS, he made more than $10 million from these activities. In 2021, he expected to earn more than $700,000 from golf. In 2015, he earned $2 million-plus a few thousand dollars, the largest amount of money he has ever won in his career. That’s all anyone’s ever said about his purses: they’re worthless. Trying to figure out Troy Merritt’s net worth isn’t as straightforward as it used to be. But he’s reportedly worth more than $5 million as of February 2024 (approximately).

Troy Merritt Wife, Marriage

With Courtney Achter, Merritt has two children, Dodge and Scout. He was a gymnast at Broncos State University in Idaho. The wedding occurred at the Casa Ybel Resort on Sanibel Island on March 13, 2010.

She told the PGA Tour in October 2014 that her husband’s first desire was to become a professional golfer, which he conveyed to her on their first date. Merritt proposed to Achter on a hike up Table Rock in Boise, Idaho. It was “amazing,” Courtney said of Troy’s proposal to her as she turned around and saw him. “Oh my goodness,” she thought. Boise, Idaho, is where they currently reside.
