Wesley Studi is a Native American actor and film producer. He is most renowned for creating Native American-like characters. He has appeared in movies including Street Fighter, The New World, Dances with Wolves, and The Last of the Mohicans. In 2020, the Academy Awards presented him with an honorary award in his honor, making him the first Indigenous American to do so. Additionally, he is only the second Native American from a North American tribe to ever get the honor. His screen début was in 1988’s The Trial of Standing-Bear.

Wesley Studi, also known as Wes, was born to parents in Oklahoma, United States, on December 17, 1947. Both his mother, Maggie Studi, who used to work as a housekeeper, and his father, Andy Studi, were from American Indigenous tribes. Andy Studi was a ranch hand. After enrolling in elementary school, Wes began to speak various languages in addition to his native Cherokee. His primary area of employment after graduating from Chilocco Indian Agricultural School was dry cleaning.

After receiving his fundamental combat training while a member of the Oklahoma National Guard, he then transferred to Fort Polk, Louisiana, where he furthered his individual training.

Later, he had further film appearances in The New World, Trail of Tears, Hostiles, and Mystery Men, among others. Wes served in the military before becoming an actor, spending a year in the Vietnam War with his 3rd Battalion 39th Infantry.
