This year marks the 20th anniversary of the music reality shows American Idol. Season 20 is only a few hours away from debuting, and spectators can anticipate it to be greater than ever. Talented singers nationwide will audition in three rounds in Nashville, Austin, and Los Angeles, starting with the season premiere on ABC on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. With the return of judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry, the program also introduces a platinum ticket, simplifying the road for select candidates.

Who Is Delaney Renee Wilson From American Idol?

Delaney Renee Wilson, a babysitter from Massachusetts, became famous in 2021 when her supervisor recorded her singing and published it on TikTok. Delaney’s supervisor, Nicki Maher, just recounted Delaney’s path to American Idol on Instagram:

“Here’s WHY: On June 21, 2021, I (secretly) took a video of Delaney, our babysitter, performing Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid) to my kid. I shared the video on @tiktok the same day, with her permission. To me, it was as easy as “the world needs to hear what I just heard,” and, to put it simply, “THE WORLD SPOKE!!!”

She went on, saying:

“Over 16 MILLION people have seen this Tiktok video, over 3 MILLION have liked it, and over 100,000 have commented on it—all on ONE SINGLE TIKTOK (not including all of the shares, other platforms, and third party accounts that uploaded it).”

Many industry figures, including Jodi Benson, Scott Braun, and Paula Abdul, praised Wilson’s film. The most significant shock came when she got a call from Adam Davis, the producer of American Idol Season 20. The 19-year-old stated in a recent interview that her father is a musician. She got admitted to her preferred college, Berklee College of Music, after being denied by seven other music institutions.

What Is The American Idol Season 20 Platinum Ticket?

Platinum tickets were introduced as a critical enhancement to the show’s formula in Season 20. The ticket comes with significant benefits, as judge Katy Perry noted during a panel discussion at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour:

“This ticket allows them to attend Hollywood Week, which we’ve already filmed and was so intense and survival of the fittest, and they get to basically observe from the box seats at the theater — one day, they get to rest their voice, strategize, check out the competition, and choose who they want to duet with.”

Season 20 of American Idol airs on ABC every Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). Check your local listings for further information.
