Wood Harris, real name Sherwin David Harris, was born on October 17, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Mattie and John Harris, his parents, gave birth to him. His father was a bus driver, and his mother was a seamstress. Steve Harris, his older brother, is also an actor.

In terms of education, he attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester. During his time there, he participated in basketball. He then attended Northern Illinois University (NIU) and received a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts degree. He also has a master’s degree in arts from New York University.
