Zazie Beetz’s Parents Separated When She Was Quite Little

Zazie Beetz was born in Germany and raised in the United States. She is best known for her roles in the FX comedy-drama series Atlanta and the Netflix anthology series Easy. In an interview with the Independent in June 2018, she revealed that she was born in Berlin and spent her first eight years there. She then migrated to the United States with her family.

Beetz said that she “was back and forth growing up,” since she attended pre-school in Berlin but finished her education in New York. “I still have to travel back to Germany for summer camp,” she said.

The Deadpool 2 actor is the daughter of a white German cabinetmaker [father] and an African-American social worker [mother]. Her parents’ identities have not been revealed. In an interview with Elle, Beetz revealed that her father, whom she characterized as “very much a German guy,” visited the United States for the first time after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989.

He met the actress’s mother in the United States and fell in love with her. The actress was shortly pregnant by the pair. So they relocated to Germany to marry and have their first child. Beetz’s mother, on the other hand, struggled to live in Germany since she couldn’t find many individuals who resembled her. Because of this, the family returned to America, living in New York City.

Beetz’s parents divorced while she was still “very tiny.” As a result, the actor spent a lot of time with her grandparents, who didn’t speak English. Despite her parents’ divorce, the actress praises them for providing a supportive atmosphere for her. “My folks just didn’t get in my way,” she said. “They let me play and simply go with what my soul was telling me to do.”

She regularly publishes images of herself with her parents on social media, showing her affection for them. In February 2017, she gram a photo of her mother, stating, “Mama in high school…She is a beauty!” In November 2014, she also posted a photo of herself with her father. Both looked at the camera with enormous grins on their faces in the photo.

Returning to her heritage, Beetz is tremendously proud of her German ancestors and considers her German identity to be very significant to her. In a prior interview with the Independent, she hinted that her German identity was an important part of who she was, despite the fact that she did not seem very German. She also said that she spoke with her father and his family “essentially solely in German.” Furthermore, she is determined to pass on that piece of her identity to her children in the future.
